Senior News October 5, 2014

We finally made it to Mahackeno!!! This past week was monumental in so many ways and to see and hear the excitement from all the swimmers was priceless. Pictures from Day 1 are up on the website. We still have a few kinks to work out but nothing that interferes with practice or the functioning of the pool. A couple of items of note involve the locker rooms. Swimmers under the age of 18 may not use the adult locker room. For the family locker room, swimmers must be accompanied by an adult before and after each practice session. We had swimmers enjoying the use of both and the Y policies must be followed. It will take some adjustment getting use to a more confined space – especially the boys – from what was at the downtown Y.

This is the first time in all my years with the team that I need to address the following: On Friday, September 26 TH , during morning practice at Staples, a swimmer had a significant amount of money taken from his wallet. The pool deck at that time is very secure as the only way into the locker rooms is from the pool deck and the Water Rats are the only ones using the pool. I had hopes the money may have been put in a different pocket and be found. Unfortunately not. It pains me to think a teammate has done this to a fellow teammate. As I sit here typing this, and having had time to think of a solution, what only comes to mind is that if a swimmer did this, then we need to have the money returned and hope the swimmer will be honest in his actions and make the tough decision and do so. I implore anyone who has any knowledge to contact me directly and to please do so as soon as possible. If you feel more comfortable talking with Frisk, then please do so as well.

Apparel: If you missed the online ordering of team apparel from ASF, the opportunity to do so is this upcoming week – Monday, October 6 to Monday, October 13. Remember, all swimmers must have the two t-shirts. If you already have the navy Speedo jacket, then you do not need to order a new one.

Greenwich Marlins Qualifier – October 25-26:
We have secured our team’s spot in the meet by having sent in a preliminary entry. The meet is full and we need to finalize our entry and send it out this upcoming week. If you have not declared your intent on Team Unify, please do so by midnight TONIGHT - Sunday, October 5

Training Equipment: Each swimmer is expected to bring their training equipment – snorkel, fins, pull/kick and paddles – to EVERY training session. We have had to change many training sets due to swimmers not being prepared.

Communication: These past couple of weeks have been a challenge in that I have fallen behind in responding to emails as the focus has been our move over to Mahackeno. I apologize for this having happened and look for things to be more settled this upcoming week. Our phone system is just getting straightened out. Rose Deluca has found a way to stretch out a day’s 24 hours and a week’s 7 days in order to get the phones, internet, cable and any other tech work that needs to be done in order for the Y to be ready for fulltime service beginning tomorrow morning.

I would like to have each swimmer’s email address so they too can receive the Senior News and any other info I may send out. Each swimmer should have my cellular number and ask they in return see that I have their number as I sometimes send out a last minute note. Swimmers are asked to communicate with me directly of their inability to attend practice or to confirm a meet entry/events, etc.
