Challenger 2 News from Coach Cruz
Hello all Challenger 2 Families:
Is Spring here for good??
As discused with the swimmers yesterday, we are 1 week and 1 day into the quest for Summer Age Group Championships.
We had some great practices the last couple of days as we learn how to push themselves into another level. Please note, asking your body to give more when they have absolutly nothing left in the tank is a challenging lesson. When the swimmers feel like they have absolutely nothing left, like on the last lap of their race or the last 50 of their race, and practice with that feeling, then they will come out stronger for that. Last week we did lots of skill work, but the last two days we created scenarios teaching the body of what to do with that feeling.
We had two world championship tournaments in kicking:
- Monday, 3/10, we had 5 world records broken in a 100 kick with fins on:
- David Zhang
- Jaelle Joseph
- Luca Adamo
- Nick Ivanov
- It was David Zhang who broke his own world record again at the end to win the World Championship 100 freestyle kick with fins.
- Honorable mention to Julian Nicolae who broke a world record also, just one of the older ones.
- Tuesday, 3/11, we had another 5 world records broken, this time in the 50 kick with NO fins:
- Michael Robinson
- Leah Lovell
- Ted Austin
- Tom Ellencweig
- It was Luca Adamo who walked away with the world championship in the 50 kick with NO fins
Best Attendance for February:
Missed only 1 Practice: Kirill Kyrychenko out of 20 practices
Better than 85% Attendance: Nick Ivanov, Jaelle Joseph, Julian Nicolae
Practice Schedule:
- Thursday, 3/13/25: 5:15 - 6:30pm
- Friday, 3/14 and Saturday, 3/15: OFF
- Week of 3/17: NO PRACTICE
Let's keep up the great work!! Come on Spring!!
Omar Cruz
