Challenger 1 Update
| Hello Challenger 1 Families, I am very happy with our progress so far this season. As we enter the month of June we will increase the volume and intensity of our training while continuing to focus on proper stroke technique and skill development. We have a great group of swimmers that challenge each other and support each other on a daily basis. Greenwich May Meet: Our swimmers opened up the Long Course season with a strong performance at the Greenwich meet. We embraced the opportunity to race in a long course pool and posted 95% best times across our entire group. The meet was crowded on deck and our swimmers had to sit in the gymnasium. I want to acknowledge all of the Water Rats swimmers for how well behaved and respectful they were given the situation. Dryland: I want to encourage all C1 swimmers to attend our dryland sessions on Thursdays 5:30-6:15pm. I am personally running these sessions. Last week we incorporated the speed ladder, jump ropes and gliders. Swimmers participated in a wide range of speed and agility exercises to improve their athleticism and stamina. These exercises are specifically designed to improve explosiveness on starts, turns and pushing off the walls. They will help swimmers increase their breath control and hypoxic capacity. As swimmers move into the Senior Group the dryland sessions become an essential part of the program to improve swimming performance. The sooner they learn how to utilize these training tools the better! Upcoming Meets: Greenwich June Meet – June 6-8 at the Greenwich YMCA NSSC Specialty Meet – June 22nd at Springfield College in Springfield, MA
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns. Go Wrats! Coach Rich |
